Uranium
Uranium is a three year old filly appropriately named for the silvery element. Her trainer is Eric Reed. He and his wife Kay are 50% owners. This filly should make her first start in late May or early June 2010.
Foo Fly
Madam Foo Foo's full sister just turned three on January 1st, 2010. She's now in our stable and is in Louisville at Merrill Scherer's farm. She'll be coming to Churchill Downs when the track opens. Madam Foo Foo was the inspiration for the hat design company started in 2009 and Foo Fly is the little creature you see on the website in the logo. We hope Foo Fly is a winner like her sister!!
Diori
Diori is the first foal born to the MTG stable. He is the progeny of our DIxie n Spades and ORIentate. Dixie N Spades was named for designer Kate Spade; so, it seemed logical to keep the designer theme intact!
Diori was weaned in early July. He's smart...very smart. Ed Valentine, farm manager at Upson Downs, says he's one of the most intelligent foals he's had at the farm. And, on a visit just after the weaning, we learned from other Upson Downs farm staff that he can run.
We feel very fortunate and blessed with our first breeding. Look for Diori in 2011.
Madam Foo Foo
Madam Foo Foo was a private purchase in 2008. She is co-owned and trained by Merrill Scherer. Madam Foo Foo had one win at Preque Isle Downs early in her career and another win this spring on the turf at Evangeline Downs for the "Sisterhood" and Mr. Scherer.
Lisa and partners formed a hat design company in early 2009 called Madam Foo Foo Couture. Our first year was a success with charitable donations to both the Susan G. Komen Foundation and horse retirement.
Cheaper To Settle
This beautiful colt is a May foal purchased by Jason Cook and Greg James at the Keeneland September 2008 sale. He is by freshman sire Closing Argument out of an Irish River mare. He should make his racing debut in late-July 2009.
Closing Argument has already had a stakes winner on the polytrack. Midst broke his maiden at Keeneland and went on to win a stakes race at Woodbine in his third career start. Midst is currently working out at Saratoga.
EuroSteel
This nice strong two-year old colt was purchased by Jason Cook at the October Fasig-Tipton yearling sale. He's by first crop sire Eurosilver (Unbridled's Song) out of a Dixieland Band mare. This is the dam's fourth foal. One of his siblings was purchased by John Ferguson for Sheikh Mohammed for a quarter of a million dollars. This young man has plenty of attitude and spunk. He is making excellent progress in training. Look for him in the summer 2009!
Let's Go Mambo
Selected by MTG partner Jim Gladden and trainer Jason Cook in the OBS April 2008 sale, this colt lacks absolutely nothing. By young sire, Black Mambo (Kingmambo), he should run over poly and dirt. His works show speed but also the potential to stretch out. The sire is 45% with off track starters and the colts are significantly outperforming the fillies. Let's Go Mambo made his racing debut in the spring of 2009 at Churchill Downs with a second to Cat Island, the half brother to Friendly Island, runner up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. We have high hopes for the "Mambo Man."
Sassy Citizen
Sassy Citizen is a Proud Citizen (Proud Spell) filly with the right name. She's smart; she's sassy; and she's a runner. Jason Cook is her trainer and she should make her debut in the late summer or early fall of 2009.
Tears of Jupiter
Tears of Jupiter was selected and purchased for Media Thoroughbred Group by Larry Jones, trainer of Hard Spun, Proud Spell and the horse we all mourned at the 2008 Kentucky Derby, Eight Belles. He and his wife, Cindy, who is part-owner of Tears of Jupiter, had two horses on the 2009 Kentucky Derby trail this year- Friesan Fire and Old Fashioned.
Tears of Jupiter is a tough young filly with lots of class and heart. She broke her maiden in a wire to wire victory on the turf at the Fairgrounds in New Orleans in December 2008. She has a win, two seconds, a third and a fourth in seven career starts.
Pistols N Pearls
Posse filly out of Fapany by Fappiano (Bay, foaled May 4, 2005) selected by Alex Gans and Gary Roedemeier. Pistols N Pearls was trained by Jason Cook and has two allowance wins and a second in six career starts. She's very competitive and she LOVES to travel. Pistols N Pearls was retired in 2008 and was bred for the first time in April 2009. She is in foal to Distorted Reality.
Dixie N Spades
Named in honor of international fashion designer Kate Spade, this Dixie Union filly out of Shiny City Shoes had it all...except an injury-proof career. Class from an outstanding pedigree, unbelievable conformation, and a great attitude. This is the horse everyone dreams of owning. By Dixie Union, out of a Carson City mare, this filly exudes class. With speed and versatility (Dixie Union) over speed (Carson City) she won two of her six career starts and was second twice.
Dixie N Spades gave birth to a beautiful colt on February 13, 2009. He is by Orientate and his name is Diori. Her second foal was born on April 8, 2010. The beautiful filly by Hat Trick is very curious and has a fabulous personality...just like her brother, Diori.
Spirit Warrior
Dan Illman, expert handicapper for the Daily Racing Form, said in his book Betting Maidens & Two Year Olds, "Quite simply, Boundary is the most underrated debut sire in the country" and gave him the highest ranking of A+.
In conversation with Lisa, Dan Illman said "I really like the Boundary cross with Private Funds. The colt's 3x5 Northern Dancer cross is the same one that produced Minardi, Boundary’s British Juvenile Champion. I also like that Private Funds is in-bred to Shenanigans, a very influential broodmare. Like most progeny of Boundary, he should be precocious and may like off-tracks as well as turf."
Dan Illman was obviously predicting not only a successful future for our horse who has two allowance wins and several seconds, thirds and fourths, he was also right on target about the sire.
The 2008 Kentucky Derby winner - Big Brown - happens to be by Boundary.
